Midnight launched with over 24 currencies. Most players open the currency tab once, get mildly horrified, and close it.

Here's the honest breakdown: the majority of those currencies manage themselves. You only need to actively track about six. This guide tells you exactly which ones, what they do, and what to spend them on — sorted by what you're actually trying to accomplish.

If You Only Want to Gear Up: Focus on Dawncrests

For power progression, everything comes down to Dawncrests — there are five tiers, and most players only need to care about one or two at any given time.

The five Dawncrest tiers (lowest to highest):

  1. Weathered Dawncrest — intro track, replaced quickly
  2. Carved Dawncrest — early progression
  3. Runed Dawncrest — mid-season standard
  4. Champion Dawncrest — pre-raid gearing
  5. Myth Dawncrest — top tier, now uncapped

The rule of thumb: track the highest crest tier you can realistically earn this week. Once the in-game achievement Hero of the Dawn pings for a tier, you've outgrown it — start trading up into the next one rather than actively farming the lower tier.

Weekly priority checklist for gear-focused players:


  • Run T11 Delves (4×) → 5 Myth Dawncrests each
  • Complete Mythic+ keys 9+ → 10–16 Myth Dawncrests per key, no lockout
  • Earn and spend Nebulous Voidcores on bonus rolls after group content
  • Farm Tier 5 Ritual Sites in Zul'Aman when active → 20 Hero crests per run, tradeable up

The One Currency With a Cap That Players Keep Forgetting: Community Coupons


Most currencies in Midnight either have no cap or a straightforward weekly limit. Community Coupons are the exception — they have a hard cap, and if you're dedicated to housing and decor, leaving them to accumulate past the ceiling is leaving rewards on the table.

They come from completing small tasks spread across the game: dailies, world events, social activities in neighborhoods. Check your cap in the currency tab and spend before you hit it.


For Crafters: The Shard of Dundun Is Your Bottleneck

Crafters have two main currencies to track:

Shard of Dundun — this is the one that matters. Hard cap of 8 in your possession and only 8 earnable per week. Shards unlock Unalloyed Abundance, which converts into Fused Vitality — the material used for high-end profession equipment. If you're crafting across multiple characters, you need to track this actively on each one. Sitting at cap means wasted weekly progress.

Artisan's Moxie — useful for recipes and extra reagents, but how much you care depends entirely on profession. Herbalists accumulate more than they'll ever spend. Alchemists burn through it constantly. Check your profession vendor and spend on what's relevant.

Everything else in the crafter ecosystem — world drop reagents, zone-specific mats — lives in your bags, not your currency tab. Those are inventory problems, not currency problems.


For Solo Players and Alts: Three Currencies to Know

Progressing alone or gearing an alt requires a slightly different lens. The group content currencies (Myth Dawncrests from Mythic+, raid loot) are harder to access, so these become more important:

Field Accolade — currently the most versatile solo-player currency. Earned from Void Assaults and Ritual Sites, it serves double duty: catch-up gear and exclusive cosmetic tier sets. When Patch 12.0.7 arrives, Field Accolades will also drop from Invasion Point world bosses, making them significantly more accessible.

Restored Coffer Keys — gear cache keys useful early in the gearing process. Group players move past them quickly; solo players and fresh alts get real mileage out of them.

Untainted Mana-Crystals — catch-up currency. Useful when you're still climbing into the season, less relevant once you're in Mythic-track gear.


For Collectors: Voidlight Marl Is the Main Account

Voidlight Marl is the broadest currency in Midnight — earned from nearly every activity, spent across cosmetics, bonus rolls, and faction vendors. You won't need to farm it specifically because it accumulates naturally. The problem isn't scarcity; it's that faction vendor unlocks can feel slow when you're waiting on rep and Marl simultaneously.

The rest of the collector-specific currencies — Undercoin (Delves), Angler Pearls (fishing), Illusionary Coin (Decor Duels) — only appear when you engage with their activity. They're self-contained loops: do the thing, earn the currency, buy the reward. No cross-contamination with gear progression.


For PvP Players

Honor and Conquest are unchanged in structure from previous expansions. Honor funds gear at the lower end; Conquest, which has a weekly cap, funds the higher-tier PvP items. Both are earned through battlegrounds, arenas, and rated content. If you're not PvP-focused, you won't see these currencies naturally. If you are, you already know exactly what they do.


What You Can Actually Ignore


The honest answer is: most of it.

Currencies like Undercoin, Angler Pearls, and Illusionary Coin only appear when you play their content and only spend at their vendor. They're not connected to gear progression, they don't affect other systems, and they don't expire. You can open that vendor six months from now and spend them just fine.

The "24+ currencies" number sounds alarming. The practical reality is you actively track four to six of them on any given week, and the rest sit quietly in the tab until you decide you want what they buy.


What to Actually Track Each Week (Cheat Sheet)

Gear-focused:

  • Myth Dawncrests (current top tier) — no cap, prioritize
  • Nebulous Voidcores — earn and spend weekly, don't let them sit

Crafters add:

  • Shard of Dundun — 8/week hard cap, never waste a reset

Solo players / alts add:

  • Field Accolade — versatile, no cap, builds toward both gear and cosmetics

Housing players add:

  • Community Coupons — capped, spend before you hit the ceiling

Everything else: let it accumulate, spend when you need it.
